Ida Samuel-Clay, LCPC
Welcome! I work exclusively with law students & early-career attorneys, graduate students & early-career professionals, and mental health providers. Treatment expertise includes depressive and anxiety symptoms, relationship transitions, occupational or academic stress, and other adjustment issues. I welcome and serve clients across all genders, identities, and backgrounds.
I am guided by DBT (i.e. mindfulness; distress tolerance; emotion regulation; and interpersonal effectiveness) and CBT school of thought (i.e. how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are influenced by each other). Clients regularly receive action plans, or "homework", to continue our work or to practice a skill in-between sessions.
Founder & Psychotherapist
I’m a homegrown midwest girl, growing up in northside St. Louis before moving to Chicago for college. I graduated from Northwestern University ‘09 (Go ‘Cats!) with my BA in Psychology and Minor in African American Studies. I then worked for a Korean-owned hair company (best job ever) for two years before returning back to school to earn my MA in Clinical Psychology with a Concentration in Latino Mental Health at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology ‘13. Since then, I’ve work with many populations and neighborhoods all throughout Chicago. This journey has been rewarding!
I’m married to a longtime friend (we met at a college party) and we live with our terrific toddler Jamison, and fur babies Rocky and Apollo. I’m an avid reader, and also love to take walks, skate, and bake treats. I love music and listen to neo soul, alternative R&B, female rappers, and house music depending on the vibes. I cherish family, friendships, and nature’s beauty.
I hope to learn more about you, too!
